Texture/Model Recycling in GWEN - Are you happy about it?
Isn't anyone disappointed how Anet just used old monsters from Nightfall, put a different texture on them and gave'em a new name?

It's very pathetic.
The mandragors are the worst: they're reskins of the old mandragors, which in turn are reskins of mantids from Factions and ghouls from Proph. Don't even get me started on the wisps/djinn . . . ANET didn't even try with that one.

Aslong as they arnt direct clones with similar skill sets im happy, besides when im monking im not looking at the enemy not even considering what they look like.
Aslong as theres some variety in the world im happy + when first seeing charr with rank 9 and old HoH builds, i wasnt thinking: they've just used an old skin

The Vaettirs are new. D:
So are the giants.
And the Destroyers.
This isn't a new continent. Do you go from America/Europe/wherever you live to Australia and shout WTF THAT AUSTRALIAN SEAGULL HAS THE SAME SKIN AS THE ONES BACK HOME GOD YOU SUCK AT BEING CREATIVE!!!11 ? No, you don't. There's variety. What SOME creatures look like isn't much of a complaining point.

/ Not happy at all
After more than a year, I'd have expect something more than re-skinned monsters, re-skinned armors, re-used textures.
Maybe instead of GW:EN it should have been called GW:RE
But as I really like the story, I'll be a nice sheep and buy my copy like everyone else

I'm not disappointed yet so long as there are newer things later on. These sorts of things happen in games. However the less original content, the worse the product becomes to a degree.
So far we have recycled mobs, some recycled armors, and a recycled plot line.

I could care less if the models or textures are recycled. Textures have a reason - why make entirely new textures when you already got them because of the same environments? (Snow, water, grasslands, deserts etc etc) Models, meh I don't really care. IMO its how they use textures and models, not if they're recycled or not. Then even past that, its all about the gameplay.

It makes sense lorewise obviously.
Not every new region has different monsters, just like Skale are found in Elona and Kryta, mandragors are found in the far shiverpeaks and elona. I hope we will see more of the same creatures across the world.
I mean isn't it interesting that disaster elementals (eg avalances and sandstorms) appear on two continents, it shows us that the world is one thing rather than just 4 different maps.
Take for instance, the fact that there are Djinn the Far shiverpeaks. Unbound Djinn (as agreed in the lore forum) were created by magic by have no orders and therefore roam free. Their prescence in the far Shiverpeaks shows us that there is powerful magic in those mountains.

Well, this IS just a preview of an expansion. They're giving us a taste of things to come, and so far I'm excited. Yeah, I'd like to see more new enemies, but there've been a few so far and I'm sure we'll see more when GW:EN officially goes live.

We know not everything is just reskins. We've seen a lot of previews with the dinosaur type monsters, etc. And frankly, it doesn't really bother me. They've clearly spent a lot more time on the actual story and quests this time round, and the game is very enjoyable. I can live with a few reskinned monsters.

I understand that sometimes people get the mistaken impression that two monsters that share animations, even though they're totally different models, is a "reskin". They're not. But in the case you stated, mandragors, mantids, and ghouls don't even share animations!
"Reskin" is using the exact same model, and putting a new texture on it. Although there seem to be some in GW:EN, GW is actually very light on straight reskins. Even things with many different variations, like wurms, pinesoul/oakhearts, and storm rider/wind riders, have very different models, if you look at them.

I think the destroyers look godly, perhaps even orgasmic.
So, to me, that makes the game. All the other enemies just get curbstomp'd anyways.

i'm more pissed about the armor recycle! all they had to do is 4 sets each profession. what do we get? http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x...ens/?start=all
yes, i hoped the pics were fake. it seems they are not! the new armor pics ppl posted in the armor thread confirm it. every chapter they gave us a different armor design, what the hell happened in GWEN?

Are there new types of devourers in GW:EN? I'm really looking forward to seeing the little critters in new colors.

Same mode=Less load and less space used.
That's fine with me.
Diablo II simply changed the palete of sprites. This is better.
- Squeleton. (How they move)
- Model. (They sape)
- Skin. (Their final appearance)
They are resources and ce be reused. Why to add more and more when things already there canbe used again perfectly.
Wisp look like djinns becase wisps ARE djinns. All elementals are the same. Elemental spirits tied to the place they are.
New cratures?
- Jotun giant/ogres are new. They use the 'giant' squeleton.
- Quetzal are new. They use the 'tengu' squeleton.
- Asura are completely new. Squeleton, skin and model.
- Jellies are completely new. Squeleton, skin and model.
- Destroyers are new. Skins and models. They use different already existing squeletons.
- Krait are new. Skins and models. They probably use naga squeleton.
- Norn are new. Skins and models. They use human squeleton.
- Dinosaur. Skins and models. They use different already existing squeletons.
They HAVE to use alrady existing models becase it's NOT another world. It another region of the existing world.
It's completely normal thet already seen creaetures reappear.
